Since 2015 National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan (AMAK), a member of International Automobile Federation (FIA) is helping to improve interactions among drivers and pedestrians in Azerbaijan and promoting road safety through various educational and research projects in association with organizations such as State Traffic Police Office, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health, Baku Transport Agency, “Hyat” International Humanitarian Organization, Red Crescent Society, British Embassy in Azerbaijan, The Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST), ADA University, Baku Engineering University and many more. Taking advantage from the opportunities of international cooperation in Azerbaijan AMAK implements the knowledge and experience that has it has gained in this field and also represents Azerbaijan at international events.
Currently AMAK started to implement the project named "Road Safety” project at schools where majority of students are internally displaces people (IDP) through Intellectual Games with the financial support of the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The goal of the project is to achieve the increase in the knowledge about traffic rules for IDP children and make them move safer on urban streets. Students and teachers of the schools that will be involved in the project will be provided with necessary information in the information sessions on road safety at these schools and will be educated about the various aspects of this social issue.
Information sessions will be organized on each region where IDPs live in the places for the participants that based on specific criteria will be selected. During those sessions potential participants will be informed about the conditions of the competition and various aspects of road safety. Among the 143 refugee schools of Ağdam, Cəbrayıl, Füzuli, Xocavənd, Xocalı, Kəlbəcər, Qubadlı, Laçın, Şuşa and Zəngilan regions 10 potential competitions will be determined by the participant team (with 5 members per team).
In the next level of the project the final competition will be held with the participation of 10 teams representing IDP schools. According to the results of the competition teams with be ranked from 1 to 3 will be announced as winners. IDP children who are the members of the winner teams (overall 15 people) along with being awarded with valuable gifts, members of other participating teams that participated in the final competition will be awarded with honorary decree.
The project will be implemented by the executive team to be coordinated with the appropriate government agencies (State Traffic Police, Ministry of Education and others). Detailed information on the work that will be done at each stage of the project periodically will be widely covered in the media and on social networks. 29,152 students from 143 IDP schools that are operating in Baku are expected to benefit from this project.
Achievement of sustainability of the project is one of the most important goals for the project. Accordingly a special attention will be paid to the formation of the approach and the basis for the implementation of sustainable education programs for propagation and promotion of road safety in refugee schools and in order to ensure the sustainability of the issue it will be delivered to the relevant decision-making bodies.
